ABSTRACT

Abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) is one of the most common gynecologic problems. Up to 1 in 5 women of reproductive age suffer from menorrhagia, generating 2.7 million office visits in the USA each year.1

Ultimately, AUB contributes to at least 40% of the over 600 000 hysterectomies performed each year,2

making hysterectomies one of the most common surgeries performed in the USA. AUB is often difficult to treat medically, which leads many patients and physicians to ‘definitive management’, i.e. hysterectomy.
