ABSTRACT

Direct trauma to the genitalia is rare, and usually not life threatening, but can be both psychologically and physically debilitating. As genital function has a strong impact on quality of life, it is important that the treating physician for genital trauma be knowledgeable about genital anatomy, as well as its immediate treatment and eventual reconstruction. Genital trauma, in the civilian setting, is roughly 45% penetrating, 45% blunt, and 10% burns and industrial accidents.1 The primary goal for treatment is the preservation of function and cosmesis, while minimizing complications.
