ABSTRACT

Introduction Arterial thrombosis comprises three basic pathways: platelet activation and aggregation, blood coagulation with fibrin formation, and fibrinolysis. Platelet activation and blood coagulation are complementary, mutually dependent processes in hemostasis and thrombosis. Indeed, platelets interact with several coagulation factors, while the coagulation product thrombin is a potent platelet-activating agonist. 1-3 Additionally, inflammatory pathways can aggravate the atherothrombotic process.
