ABSTRACT

Answer: (d) Temporary drainage may differentiate those kidneys that have recoverable function from those that have irreversible injury or renal dysplasia and/or hypoplasia. Early surgery may allow for an easier repair than one in which a double J stent or a nephrostomy tube causes trauma to the renal pelvis. The presence of cortical cysts generally correlates with diffuse glomerulosclerosis. Laparoscopic surgery is a viable option but the technical nuances in a 6-week-old infant preclude its use.
