You note, however, that we also know, on the basis of concepts alone, that two plus one is necessarily equal to three, although the concept of necessity does not lie in the concept of two plus one. You are quite right. What happens in such cases is this: We combine three with two plus one by means of a negative copula, and then reject this combination apodictically. We are then led to concepts such as that of the impossible by reflecting upon the apodictic judgement. Thus there is an experience from which we derive such concepts as that of the impossible, and the object of this experience is the apodictic judgement.
