ABSTRACT

Hospital management take a serious interest in medical negligence. This is partly because of its considerable cost, but the true costs of injury and litigation far exceed the immediate costs of compensation. The physical and emotional complications lead to an increased use of hospital resources [1]. Hospital staff are affected not only by the original incident but also by the ongoing process of litigation [2, 3]. It is a distressing and damaging experience, and one of the main sources of stress both for consultants and for over-worked junior doctors [4].
