Walter and Dorinda Shelley wrote: "The big news is Skin Cap, coming out of Spain, now sweeping the country as an over-the-counter spray therapy
longer do the patients need steroids inuncted, ingested or injected, and
no more methotrexate or PUVA visits. It seems unbelievable that a product not even requiring prescription can be so effective." (Shelley W 1997)
The product was said to be a zinc pyrithione spray that also contained
the detergent sodium laurel sulfate. Thinking the product was safe, the Shelleys gave it to a patient for large plaques of psoriasis on the legs. The plaques essentially disappeared after a month of using a one-second spray
twice a day. They described another patient with scalp psoriasis: "Last
week, one of our patients jumped up when we entered the room to
several months was now gone. It had taken just 4 days." The Skin Capm product showed unprecedented efficacy. Bill Danby
published a study showing the histologic effects of Skin Cap'" on psoriasis. (Rowlands CG 2000) Improvement was observed histologically in as
little as 5 hours. Within 2 weeks, nearly all the changes of psoriasis had completely resolved. Skin Capm was a revolution for the specialty
