ABSTRACT
The practitioners of mechanics, for whom the concept of time belongs to the first and most important concepts of their science, have allowed themselves to be satisfied with this general comprehensibility of the expression. Neither Archimedes nor Galileo felt the need to embark on investigations into the nature of time, though psychologists and metaphysicians have repeatedly concerned themselves with the clarification of this riddlesome concept in extensive discussions.
