ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION This chapter provides an overview of medications commonly used during cardiac catheterization and interventional procedures. It will focus on medications that provide hemodynamic optimization during procedures as well as agents used to prevent thrombotic complications. Other chapters addressing specific therapeutic areas (e.g., ST segment elevation myocardial infarction) may address individual treatments in more detail, while this chapter will serve as a broad overview of pharmacology, therapeutic applications, monitoring, and safety of these agents.
