ABSTRACT

Regular participation in health-enhancing physical activity (PA) has numerous health benefits, including a reduction in cardiovascular disease and stroke, diabetes, hypertension, colon cancer, breast cancer, and depression (World Health Organization, 2003). For children, low PA and poor physical fitness are related to cardiovascular disease risk factors and decreased quality of life from an early stage of life (Andersen, Harro, Sardinha, Froberg, Ekelund, Brage et al., 2006). This makes children an interesting and relevant target population for the promotion of PA.
