ABSTRACT

Peer consultations are both valuable and necessary elements in consulting in the fields of sport, exercise, and performance psychology (SEPP). They are encouraged and even mandatory in some areas of psychology (e.g., starting in 2010, 10 hours of peer consultations per year are required for continuing professional development (CPD) by the Australian Psychological Society, APS, 2010). In the U.K., Waumsley, Hemmings, and Payne (2010) argue for their “inclusion … as a criterion for reaccreditation or continuing registration” (p. 255). There are other examples of peer support groups in counseling psychology (e.g., Thomas, 2005), and the biological sciences (Daniell, 2006). It is only recently, however, that it has been discussed in SEPP (e.g., Watson, Lubker, & Van Raalte, 2011).
