1 INTRODUCTION

Decision support systems (DSS) have been defined as a class of computer-based information systems, and knowledge-based systems that support business and organizational decision making activities. Properly designed, a DSS is an interactive, software-based system that allows decision makers to compile information from raw data, documents, personal knowledge and/or business models to identify and solve problems (Wikipedia 2011). They belong to an environment with multidisciplinary foundations, including database research, artificial intelligence, human-computer interaction, simulation methods, software engineering and telecommunications.
