ABSTRACT
“Drill, baby, drill!” has become a rallying cry for politically conservative ideologues who believe the solution to our energy problems is to extract and burn ever more fossil fuels. On the opposite extreme are calls to eliminate fossil and nuclear energy entirely and immediately, wholly replacing them with renewables and conservation. Both nostrums are simplistic, unrealistic, and ill informed. But what are more cogent remedies?
