ABSTRACT
Ecosystems have complex interactions with climate change, being directly affected and impacted but also playing an important role in both mitigation and adaptation. This chapter introduces basic notions to understand the recent and growing concept of ecosystem-based adaptation to climate change. As an introduction, we begin with the evidence of climate impacts in ecosystems, then we justify the need for adaptation and finally we introduce and explore the notion of ecosystem-based adaptation.
