ABSTRACT
What makes a good captain, coach or manager? As you glance back through earlier chapters, you will find that we have already posed similar questions, including ‘What makes a champion?’, ‘What makes the winning mind?’ and ‘What makes a winning team?’. It will probably come as no surprise to learn that the answer to the first question will be the same as the rest – it all depends! Good leaders in sport, as elsewhere, come in all shapes and sizes, and so searching for a single formula to explain their success is futile.
