ABSTRACT

In modern sport, the gap between winning and losing, the gold or the silver, has never been narrower. The technical resources now available to help players and athletes take their bodies to the physical limits and beyond are breath-taking, and have made that elusive winning edge ever more difficult to find. While physical and tactical preparation has become increasingly comprehensive, there is one dimension of sporting performance that continues to sort the sporting wheat from the chaff, or those who succeed from those who fall short.
