Family Complications and Separation: Gone but Not Forgotten
Incarceration, deployment, divorce, deportation, foster care, and adoption are a few of the many issues involving some form of judgment, isolation, loss of routine, safety, and protection. So many of us were raised and continue to raise our children on the myth that a family with a mother and dad and children living in the home is the norm and the model of how life should be. Today’s kids live in a different norm and model. Adjusting to change, separation, and presumed safety are commonplace in a fast, ever-changing society, where children are separated from their parents, moved from their homes, and ridiculed or judged for their complex family issues as a secondary loss.
