The Sex Ratio

The ratio between the sexes in any population is often expressed as the number of males per hundred females. Thus 'the normal sex ratio of live births of 105'5' means that for every hundred girls that are born live, there are 105'5 boys. When the sex ratio is described in this chapter as being high, this means that there is an excess of males over females, and vice versa.
