ABSTRACT

This assertion, by Albie Sachs, Justice on the Constitutional Court

of South Africa, was printed in the Art from South Africa exhibi-

tion catalogue (June 1990-July 1991). It was made soon after

Nelson Mandela’s release from Robben Island and the lifting of the

ban on the ANC. Although the catalogue discussed these issues, it

also highlighted the status and the role of art in a postcolonial and

globalised world.
