ABSTRACT
What we want to do in this chapter is to pull together some of the threads from the preceding chapters, and to make some suggestions about some ways forward for work in the fields of interest of this book. The first part of this chapter, therefore, revisits Part One (the theory) and Part Two (the practice) to pick out some of what seem to us to be the major points in the material we have presented. We then ask what all of this adds to what we have said previously (Schneider and Kitchen, 2002, chapter 10) about some of the broad propositions we think might guide the future development of the field. We also discuss what we think are some of the important research issues which arise from the material. Finally, we offer some concluding remarks.
