ABSTRACT
Who would be a referee? After all, who as a player, coach, official or spectator cannot claim to have attributed the result of a game (generally a defeat) or individual shortcomings in a performance to the decisions of the match officials (the referee or his/her assistants)? As a former player and coach, I have to confess my guilt but, as a teacher who has refereed many games at schools level, I also have some empathy with these beleaguered officials.
