Disability, physical education and school sport

In the previous chapters of this book we have examined how the use of a range of sporting and physical activities to promote the greater social inclusion of disabled people in sport and in the wider society more generally has come increasingly to dominate the policy agenda of many Western governments, and especially those in Europe. The central objective of this chapter is to examine the increasing use of physical education (PE) and school sport as vehicles of social policy targeted at promoting the inclusion of young disabled people and those with special educational needs (SEN) in mainstream (or regular) schools.
