ABSTRACT
The literature on this topic is vast,1 but mostly it relates to demography, urban planning and geography, which is not the main concern here. Rather, the purpose here is much more limited and focused. In particular, we concentrate on the data relating to urbanization given in the World Development Indicators and provide a preliminary analysis of that information as far as it bears on the issue of sustainability.
