ABSTRACT

In reading through the contributions to this volume one cannot help but be struck by the incredible diversity of understanding of both the experiences and defining characteristics of “Generation X.” In her Introduction, Christine Henseler rightly points out the plurality of Generation X experiences and the multifarious ways members of this cohort have navigated the complex terrain of the late Cold War and postmodern globalized worlds. I would like to attenuate her analysis at the very start of this chapter: Whereas she argues that “Generation X literally goes global through an active process of engagement with one another,” I believe that Generation X cannot be said to exist except through its globality.
