ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a case study which casts light on the impact of Fairtrade (FT) on landless labourers. Since the main goal of this study is to measure outcomes, the analysis is based on randomized controlled trials (RCTs). RCTs have long been used as a research method in clinical trials, but only more recently in the field of development economics. Abhijit Vinayak Banerjee and Esther Duflo (2011) have applied RCTs to provide “a radical rethinking of the way to fight global poverty”.
