ABSTRACT

Turkey is an earthquake-prone country that is located on the historically earthquake-prone Anatolian Peninsula. Local communities have lived under significant and continuous risk for thousands of years. Many destructive earthquakes occurred and even destroyed civilizations such as Hierapolis, Ephesus, and Troy. The Eastern Mediterranean sector of the Alpine-Himalayan earthquake belt exposes 98% of the nation to seismic risk. Earthquakes along with other natural and man-made disasters require an effective disaster system that can achieve timely interorganizational coordination in rapidly changing disaster environments.
