ABSTRACT

Communitas is the feeling that arises between liminal subjects. It is sometimes understood as communion, ecstasy, or what John Dewey termed a “heightened vitality” (Schechner and Appel 1990, 13). e feeling has also been described as a ƒeeting sense of harmony achieved by subjects acting in concert as they work through a social drama that plays out the conƒicts and ssures inherent in any formation of communal existence (Schechner and Appel 1990, 13).
