ABSTRACT

Minimalism names an art movement, particularly relevant in sculpture, whose early developments took place during the second half of the 1960s. Major exponents of minimalism in the visual arts include Robert Morris, Donald Judd, Frank Stella and Sol LeWi; while in the performing arts, minimalism has been mostly associated with the choreography of Yvonne Rainer in the 1960s, particularly her masterpiece Trio A-even though we can identify the inƒuence on Robert Morris’ minimalism coming from the work in the early 1960s of the choreographer Simone Forti, particularly her Dance Constructions. Trisha Brown’s Equipment Pieces of the late 1960s and early 1970s are another example of choreographic minimalism.
