ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in this book. The book provides some suggestions on new frontiers of research in the rich domain of urban studies, including the related fields of geography, sociology, architecture and the design disciplines, and planning. It offers a critical reflection on theoretical conjecture concerning the contemporary cultural economy of the city. The book discusses cultural economy intersections with labour and housing markets, which demonstrates the powerful interdependencies between evolving forms of creative work and inequality. It argues that the expansion of the cultural economy as a critical developmental trajectory of the contemporary city offers an attractive and prospectively fruitful entry into rethinking urban space. The book concludes with a statement on principal development tendencies, theoretical implications and policy lessons derived from the large and burgeoning literatures on the new cultural economy of the twenty-first-century city.
