ABSTRACT

Peers play multiple roles in supporting and teaching each other – a ‘natural’ social relationship that you should capitalize on. The focus of this chapter is on peer tutoring, i.e., situations in which one learner (the ‘tutor’) provides a learning experience for another learner (the ‘tuteee’), under your supervision. It is sometimes referred to as peer-mediated instruction, peer-assisted learning strategies (PALS), class-wide peer tutoring, paired reading and peer mentoring. As a strategy, it is closely related to Strategy 1: Cooperative Group Teaching.
