ABSTRACT
Valuable natural resources do not necessarily provide a shortcut to development and peace. Some of the richest countries in natural resource wealth – such as Angola, Burma, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) – are among the least developed in the world, having been, among other things, plagued by conflicts related to valuable natural resources for years or even decades.
