ABSTRACT

Of all the facets of the Biodyne Model, the one that seems to universally resonate is the onion-versus-garlic conceptualization. As we all know, if one has onions for lunch and then returns to the office, the aftertaste will annoy the one who ate the onions for at least two or three hours. On the other hand, if one has garlic for lunch, it does not bother the one who ate it, but it is annoying to all who may have to interact with the garlic eater. Thus, we conceptualize that onion patients are those who suffer, while garlic patients make others suffer. In Biodyne training all over the world, we have not encountered a society where this fails to resonate. In recent extensive training in a series of universities and hospitals in China, the onion–garlic concept, even through a translator, invariably invoked the smiles and laughter of acceptance and instant comprehension.
