ABSTRACT

AS OUTLINED IN THIS BOOK, THE SUCCESSFUL TRANSITION from traditional corporate management to sustainability requires a number of critical prerequisites: first, a change of worldview that recognizes the economy as a subset of our ecological system; second, a method for monetizing the non-priced externalities of human industrial activity; third, an accounting system that allows the integration of social and environmental accounts with traditional financial statements; and, finally, a cultural shift in attitudes and behavior not only among the general public as citizens and consumers, but also a fundamental change in the culture of the corporate entity.
