The Core of Goal-Directed Network Management: Uniting in Diversity
This chapter reveals the unity/diversity tension that is present in networks. It starts with a review of what is known about tensions in interorganizational settings and then illustrates how these successful networks manage to cope with the unity/diversity paradox. While all networks are united around identity, vision, and the value of diversity, all are diverse in terms of number of members, organizational culture of members, and member ideology, among other things. Therein lies the root of the unity/diversity tension.
