Building Network Power and Using It

In this chapter I explore how these networks sustain both unity and diversity to build power. Specifi cally, I argue that the unity/diversity paradox helps build the networks’ “power to” and power bases, by developing knowledge, expanding access to key actors, further legitimating the network, and increasing fi nancial resources. I start by conceptually introducing power in interorganizational settings, and conclude by showing how these networks use the power built to advocate on behalf of immigrants.
