ABSTRACT

As discussed in the first part of this book, there is a big gap between the charac-teristics of existing protocols of energy accounting based on the concept of net energy analysis and the desired characteristics of an integrated multi-scale proto-col of energy accounting suitable to analyze complex autopoietic systems such as human society. In this chapter we sketch out the general features of an innovative approach that we propose to generate a more effective energy analysis of the metabolic pattern of modern society.
