ABSTRACT

Reading comprehension is an essential component of most human activities. Schools are particularly concerned about content area reading comprehen-sion. State and national assessments of fourth, eighth, and eleventh graders' reading comprehension has shown more than a third of students not understanding at a basic level (NAEP, 2007). Lacking this essential skill affects student performance in all their academic courses and further contributes to life-long challenges in decision making and problem solving.
