ABSTRACT

Media output is generally intended for mass consumption. It exists to be consumed. Most of the time it will be consumed quickly and without very much thought. In consequence, unless it is in some way special, it doesn’t get considered very much at all, let alone written about, except perhaps when selected for review in other areas of the media or for the purposes of academic study. The idea behind analysis, which is what this section is about, is to get you to take a considered and close look at a specific media product or part of one. In doing so you are invited to bring to that product your expertise in applying the conceptual framework you have developed in studying the media.
