ABSTRACT

Almost all the exam marking process for all subjects is now carried out online. Instead of marking your actual paper script, an examiner is now likely to be asked to mark a scan of part of it on his or her computer screen. There are some important implications of this for you. First, because an examiner will mark just one question from your script rather than all of it, several different examiners will each mark one individual question that you have answered. It is therefore very important that you focus specifically on the individual question you are being asked as the examiner can no longer see your whole paper. The implication of this is that if you have got the wrong response in the wrong place, the examiner can no longer make any allowance for this. Obviously as a candidate it is in your interests to be as precise as you can in responding to each of the individual questions. For example, in MEST1 Section A, your response to a question about Media Audiences should clearly focus on that particular concept. Avoid getting confused – for example, by writing information that belongs under the heading of Media Representations. You won’t get any credit for it.
