ABSTRACT

Working effectively with parents and carers is the key to reducing bureaucracy. If parents are confident about what is being done to support their child, they do not need pieces of paper. They can be your greatest ally in reducing bureaucracy, or – if you get the relationship with them wrong – they can undo all your efforts. Not least, they can exercise their legal right to request a statutory assessment for a possible Statement of SEN/Education, Health and Care Plan that will generate a blizzard of paperwork for you and the local authority.
