ABSTRACT
This chapter provides you with an introduction to the use of complex notation and the j operator, which provides us with a convenient way of representing the effect of phase shift due to reactive components. Complex notation provides us with a simple yet powerful method of solving even the most complex of a.c. circuits. We will put these techniques to good use in later chapters, when we will be analysing complex networks.
