ABSTRACT

In this chapter, I will review the main theories of change that have been articulated through six schools of thought. These six schools of thought and their related theories, which are typically represented in the literature on higher education and across various other disciplines, will be referred to again as I describe the framework for change in Part II of the book. They are:1

1. Scientific management; 2. Evolutionary; 3. Social cognition; 4. Cultural; 5. Political; and, 6. Institutional.
