ABSTRACT

Put simply, as global population continues to increase, more people seek jobs. The increased demand for travel creates improved opportunities for jobs related to both the formal and the informal travel and tourism economy. The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) reported on the importance of the sector in terms of its contribution to employment with ninety-eight million directly employed by travel and tourism in 2011 (WTTC 2012). If indirect and induced employment is also considered, travel and tourism generated some 255 million jobs in 2011, equivalent to one in twelve of all jobs in the world (WTTC 2012).
