ABSTRACT

Lionel of Clarence, the second son of Edward III, was in 1361 in his twenty-third year, and a most princely youth, tall, strong, and handsome. In right of his wife Elizabeth de Burgo he was Earl of Ulster and Lord of Connacht, once a splendid lordship, but now fallen for the most part into the hands of O’Neills, O’Connors, and rebellious Burkes.
