ABSTRACT

Effective classroom management is essential to effective learning. Classroom management refers to arrangements made by the teacher to establish and maintain an environment in which learning can occur, e.g. effective organisation and presentation of lessons so that pupils are actively engaged in learning. Classroom management skills and techniques are addressed throughout this book in a number of different chapters and units. This chapter includes three units about different aspects of classroom management related to interacting with pupils.Together they give an insight into the complex relationships that are developed between teachers and pupils, and emphasise the need for well-developed skills and techniques that you can adapt appropriately to the demands of the situation. They reinforce the fact that, although you must plan your lessons thoroughly, not everything you do in the classroom can be planned in advance, as you cannot predict how pupils will react in any situation on any given day.
