ABSTRACT

Following on from the previous chapter which considered younger children’s views of praise, this chapter conducts a detailed exploration of the deeper issues, such as the effect of praise on the motivation of learning and social behaviours. A group of eleven-year-olds were involved in this study as they were more able to reflect on, and articulate, the effect of praise on their behaviours. By the time the study ended, all the children were preparing for transition to Secondary school and so were beginning to compare their Primary school experience with a new context and a change in culture.
