ABSTRACT
To begin your course, you need to start to develop in your linguists an enquiring mind. You will fi nd that the students in front of you probably take most language for granted most of the time. Opening their eyes to the complexity and subtlety of language transaction is important if they are to gain an understanding of how language works.
