ABSTRACT

Doing Critical Literacy has so far included several texts that Barbara Comber, Allan Luke and Jennifer O'Brien call ‘everyday’ texts. These texts are mundane in both senses of the word—both ordinary and of the world. In previous sections, we have already looked at maps, CD covers, cards, posters, advertisements, comics, cartoons, movies, magazine articles, photographs and so on. Why then does this section focus on everyday texts?
