ABSTRACT

A PROBLEM-SOLVING APPROACH Any teaching assignment poses challenges. In classrooms, “challenge” translates into behavior that needs to be improved. You would not consider it a challenge if every assignment you gave was completed enthusiastically by all your students and they aced every test they took. But that rarely happens. A challenge is a problem to be solved-how to teach skills your students need to master or social behavior they need to learn. Problem-solving involves steps:

1. Clearly specify the goal. 2. Assess the current state of affairs and your resources. 3. Try a procedure. 4. Evaluate and change as necessary.
