ABSTRACT

The obsession of feminist theories with the body as the conclusive image of identity and the site of political struggle has led to a proliferation of unspoken conflations, confusions and invisibilities in the field of gender studies. Where love is fractured by violence and subjectivity is an unstable and threatening arena, a keen and painful listening to the conflicting pasts and languages which constitute Woman seems an obvious and difficult imperative. Within the terms of experience and desire I envisage an ongoing feminist battle which demands consideration.
